Cottages are places for rest and recreation. A cottage bathroom should have a few little luxuries–soft, fluffy towels, scented candles, loofah brushes, heated tile floors and plush rugs. Bathroom decoration themes should complement an ideal image of the location. A beach cottage might have ocean themed decorations. A bathroom in a hunting lodge might feature game animals and sport fish. What matters is that the decorations contribute to a sense of restfulness rather than becoming clutter.
Pick your colors and they should be pastels. Cottage bathrooms usually feature soft colors like white, light green, light yellow and even pink. The intent is to create a feeling of “nature.” You can also choose wallpaper with plant motifs. Choose your sink, toilet and tub. Cottage bathrooms often have large, claw-footed bathtubs, and oversized pedestal sinks. Another good choice is to put the sink inside a distressed wood cabinet.
A charming cottage bathroom will have a completed look if small pieces of rustic furniture are added to the space. For example, a small decoupage shelf, rustic linen cabinet, or vintage vanity can all add texture and style to the bathroom. The visual appeal of cottage bathroom design rests on its shabby chic decorative elements. To add to the texture of a cottage bathroom, you can slightly distress the wood on a small vanity or medicine cabinet to make it look rustic and authentic. The simple addition of rustic furniture will solidify the cottage decorative appeal in your bathroom.
Cottage bathroom design just wouldn’t be the same without a few ornate accessories to unify the look. Brass sink accessories like a soap dispenser or toothbrush holder can add an element of cottage charm to the room. A colorful display of flowers in a translucent vase, a silvery beaded clock, and charming hand towels will bring the entire decorative theme to completion. A cottage style bathroom is simple, rustic, elegant, and most of all totally charming. Applying these simple techniques will allow you to create a cottage themed bathroom that is feminine and ornately designed.
Make curtains, using printed cotton fabric in a style, color and pattern which fits your theme. Fold down the top inch of the fabric. Leave a quarter-inch seam allowance and stitch along the edge to make a casing. Run a wooden dowel rod through the curtain you just made and hang the curtains in the windows. Make longer curtains for the doorways if you like.
